What is FASTag?

Fastag is a small electronic device. It is the same as a credit or debit card. However, it is also half or smaller in size than a credit card. It is mounted on the front mirror of the car. It has a chip inside which all the information related to your vehicle is present. As soon as you go to the toll plaza, all the information related to your vehicle will be recorded. How To Get Free FASTags?

150 rupees security money is deposited at the time of purchasing Fastag. However, to promote Fastag, NHAI is making it available for free. In such a situation, people will no longer have to deposit 150 rupees security money. However, for free, Fastag will be available only at NHAI’s Point of Sale-POS. Customers will have to pay the full fee for buying Fastag from the bank.

How to buy and activate fastag?

FASTags are issued through various means like Point-of-Sale (POS) by 22 certified banks at the National Highway Toll Plaza. They are also available on e-commerce platforms like Amazon. Ways of activating FASTags

Self-activation: FASTag is ‘bank-neutral’, that is, no bank is pre-assigned to FASTag when you buy it from a POS terminal or online platform. The online FASTag is based on the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) key, where you can activate it on your own by entering the vehicle details in the ‘My FASTag mobile app’. Android smartphone users can download the My FASTag app from the Google Play Store and iPhone users can download the app from the Apple Store.

Get FASTags information from the mobile app

Next, you have the facility to connect FASTag with any of your existing bank accounts using the My Fastag mobile app. The facility of NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) prepaid wallet is also available in the My FASTag mobile app, where you can add money and pay your toll charges directly from the prepaid wallet instead of deducting it from a bank account.

Get activated by going to a certified bank branch

You can also purchase FASTag by going to the nearest branch of the bank included in the list below and linking FASTag to your existing bank account.
These documents will have to be given at the time of activation

At the time of activation, you will be required to submit KYC (No Your Customer) documents as per the KYC policy of the bank. Apart from KYC, you will have to submit a vehicle registration certificate (RC) along with the application for FASTag.

How to recharge fastag?

If FASTag is already linked to your bank account, there is no need to deposit money separately in a prepaid wallet. All you need to do is to ensure that there is enough money in your FASTag linked bank account to avoid payment. However, if you have linked FASTag to a prepaid wallet (NHAI prepaid wallet), it can be recharged through various means like check or through UPI, debit card, credit card, NEFT, net banking. Also, additional charges will be levied while recharging the FASTag account through different means.

For Limited KYC FASTag Account Holder: FASTag cannot hold more than Rs. 20,000 in prepaid wallet. The limit of putting money again in the month has also been kept at Rs 20,000.
For Full KYC FASTag Account Holder: This type of FASTag account cannot deposit more than Rs 1 lakh in their FASTag pre-wallet. According to the website of the Indian Highway Management Company Limited (IHMCL), no monthly re-deposit can be made in this account.

How much money will you have to pay for Fastag?

Certified banks can charge a maximum of Rs 100 for each FASTag, which is fixed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). However, the actual tag issuing the charges is fixed by the bank and its charges may vary from bank to bank.

As an example, HDFC Bank is offering Fastag for Rs 400. Wherein 100 rupees are being taken as the first recharge amount in the wallet while creating a wallet, Rs 100 for issuance of Rs 100 tag, refundable security deposit of Rs 200.

You cannot use a FASTag with two or more vehicles, you must buy two separate FASTags for two vehicles.

According to the IHMCL website, if you live within the 10 km range from the toll plaza, you can avail the concession on tolls paid through your FASTag. As such, you will have to submit the required documents. Such as your place of residence, the nearest POS location to ensure that your residential address is within 10 km of a particular toll plaza. Once the address is verified, you can avail the concession on tolls paid through the fastag assigned to your vehicle.
